The part of a truncated cone terminal has a separate section from the rest of portafiala by a wire gauze containing a sphere: at the end of the sampling (and therefore aspiration) the ball occludes the entrance hole to prevent the passive entry of air and an unintentional contamination of the adsorbent substrate.
